The Hashemite kingdom of Jordan is located in Middle East; the bordering Countries are Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Palestine. The territory of Jordan covers about 92,300 km². Amman is the capital, more than 2 million people live there. The Jordanian Government is a constitutional hereditary monarchy.

Jordan is landlocked except at its southern extremity, where nearly 26 km of shoreline along the Gulf of Aqaba provide access to the Red Sea. A great north-south geological rift, forming the depression of Lake Tiberias (Sea of Galilee), the Jordan Valley, and the Dead Sea, is the dominant topographical feature.

The vast majority of Jordan, east of the Mountain Heights plateau and constituting 75% of Jordan’s landmass, is made up of desert. This is known as the Badia region, the semi-arid and arid ecological zone of sands and rocks that’s stretches across the eastern part of Jordan and extends south into Saudi Arabia, east into Iraq and north into Syria.

The major characteristic of the climate in Jordan is the contrast between a relatively rainy season from November to April and very dry weather for the rest of the year.
